Daniels became a stripper when she was 17 and worked at a club in Baton Rouge. In 2000 she became a feature entertainer with Continental Theatrical Agency. She chose her stage name inspired by the Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx who named his daughter Storm. As a Louisiana girl she chose the last name "Daniels" after seeing a Jack Daniel's advertisement that read "a Southern favorite." During her work as a feature she met Devon Michaels, who was filming lesbian scenes for several upcoming films. Stormy went with Michaels to the Wicked Pictures shoot where she met Brad Armstrong and co-starred with Michaels in her Sin City scene, American Girls Part 2. After her first girl on girl scene, Armstrong invited Daniels to stay with him. From that moment on she continued doing lesbian-only scenes. In 2002 she was also part in a Heat (by Wicked Pictures), where she did her first heterosexual sex scene. Later that year she signed an exclusive contract with Wicked Pictures. Only two years later she won the Best New Starlet Award from Adult Video News. Stormy was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame on January 18, 2014 and was inducted into the XRCO Hall of Fame on April 16, 2014. Besides her being a performer, she is also a director and she has been directing films for Wicked Pictures in the past decade. Her directorial work of 2014 won fourteen AVN Award nominations including a nomination for Best Safe Sex Scene for her performance with Brendon Miller in François Clousot’s First Crush.Daniels was part of the show Real Sex. She also appeared in Dirt on the FX Network, playing a stripper. Among her other appearances is the one she had in Maroon 5's music video for their song "Wake Up Call".
